Like many home renovations, the goal for this remodel was an open kitchen, dining, and living experience for the main floor. Before, the home had an awkward layout of an l-shaped kitchen than winded into separate living spaces and a sunroom. This new floor plan gave room for natural light and the perfect open space for entertaining.

A classic white kitchen with marble veining quartz countertops sets the perfect tone for the home to transform with every season.

The bar area is set as a focal piece on the back wall with access to all areas of the main living space: kitchen, dining room, and outdoor space. The built in wine storage area with beverage cooler is centered between accent glass cabinets for a formal and elegant space.

Frosted 15-lite pocket door separates the kitchen from the large walk in mudroom and pantry space.

Designed for Downtown, designs in the urban and close to town neighborhoods in Greenville, SC. Typically lots range from 50 feet to 60 feet in width, with an occasional needle in a haystack lot that is wider. This particular home site was a needle in a haystack. Located on a quiet drive in Traveler’s Rest, this lot featured acres of land for this home design to stretch and be as it may on the beautiful, natural landscaped site. There were minimal constraints as to how the home had to be built, what it’s setbacks were, etc. 

Being it a custom home, DfD was able to work with this family of six to create the home that they had always dreamed of. As I sat with the homeowner at the end of the project, we discussed family life and where theirs had begun. A small 1000sf home was the first that welcomed the first of their children, moving to a larger home in the urban development where they would raise four daughters to now, a modern home design that creates individual spaces for each with room to expand, open concept living, kitchen and dining for holiday entertaining and views throughout the entire home to help bring the outdoors in.

 AJH Custom Homes, LLC was able to take the design of this home from the ground up creating a beautiful modern farmhouse in the midst of its appropriate setting.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – and nowhere is that more apparent than in your home’s impressive display of holiday décor. From the beautifully trimmed trees to the carefully placed Christmas villages, the holidays are a time to really show out!

We’d like to give you some design tips for decorating for the holidays this year with one spot in particular - your fireplace mantel!

1. Symmetry is key! Try mirroring or balancing the weight of décor on either side of the fireplace and mantel.

2. Overlap artwork and pieces. The key here is layering pieces of varying size. This adds depth to the space.

3. Mix in non-holiday pieces. Add items that you already have such as lanterns and candles. These help keep the space looking effortless and ties the décor into the rest of your home’s more permanent décor.

4. Fill your fireplace with more than just logs. If you are like most southern families who don’t always use your fireplace in this warm climate, you can add a lovely stack of candles or some other touch of décor for a nice feature!

We designed this home renovation & addition with natural light in mind throughout the entire design process. This home was once dark and divided and it’s now much brighter, more open, with more space to use! We kept the kitchen, living room, and dining room all in their existing locations but opened up each space to each other to let the light flow in.

We incorporated unique details into this kitchen by request of the homeowners and the results are beautiful! Our client found a photo with this accent tile online and Clayton Tile was able to help us find the exact match!

Our homeowners also have a very sweet & large dog that needed a discreet space for her bowls now that they had an open kitchen. What better than to hide the bowls right in the custom kitchen island it self?

We also rearranged the former bedroom spaces for a larger laundry room, new powder room, new staircase to the new second story, and new larger master suite.

On top of all of that we added a large second story for new bedrooms, bathrooms, and bonus space. We added dormers around this addition to bring in the bright natural light on this floor just like in the renovated main floor.

Finally, we replaced their smaller deck with a larger and more open screened in deck for better use while entertaining in their large backyard!
